New cultural architecture in Poland

10. Lodz - EC1 Łódź - City of Culture

In revitalised buildings of the former EC1 Lodz Power Plant, a cultural centre is created encompassing a modern Planetarium, the Centre for Science and Technology the Comic and Interactive Narration Centre and the Elemental Street -  interactive play space for children. In 2023, also the Łódź Film Commission and The National Centre of Film Culture will open their premises in EC1.

Opening (Planetarium): 2018

Situation: close to city centre and new main railway station, with open space, new and renovated buildings, EC1 development still in progress.

11. Lodz - Museum Modern Art MS2  (Museum Sztuki 2, in Manufaktura)

Museum MS2 is mainly a place of experimental work, and has an 20th and 21st century art collection aiming at providing an appropriate environment for contemporary audiences to interact with the heritage of past and present generations of artists. The museum is in the historic building of the 19th-century weaving mill. MS2 is part of the large revitalisation project Manufaktura.

Opening: 2008, other parts of Manufaktura in later stages.

Situation: part of the major Manufaktura redevelopment (shopping mall, hotels, offices)

12. Lublin - Centre for the Meeting of Cultures

Centre for the Meeting of Cultures is intended as a place for dialogue, as a space of meetings, an expression of the dreams and aspirations of the residents of the region, a platform for the promotion and dissemination of culture. The usable floor area is over 23.000 m2. The builing contain exhibitions spaces, rooftop gardens, etc.  

Opening: 2016 (the Music Theatre on the backside in 2020)

Situation: close to the old city centre, a big public square in front of the buildings acts as an open air extension.
